My Favourite Musical Theatre Classics

Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa invites you for an enchanting lunchtime concert at the magnificent Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta.  This recital, featuring captivating and talented soprano Rachel Fabri and versatile pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa, takes place on Tuesday 16 January 2024 at 12:30pm.

Experience the magic of musical theatre with this delightful programme which includes the timeless melody Someone to Watch Over Me from the classic Oh Kay! by George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein’s Somewhere from West Side Story. These two iconic songs will be followed by My Lord and Master by Rodgers and Hammerstein’s from the popular The King and I as well as the classical title track from the master piece The Sound of Music by the same authors.

This intruiging programme also includes Far from the Home I Love by Harnick and Bock from Fiddler on the Roof and the haunting Memory from Andrew Lloyd Weber’s iconic musical Cats as well as two piano solo pieces by the talented Ramona.  This memorable concert concludes with Sondheim’s Green Finch and Linnet Bird from Sweeny Todd and Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s timeless masterpiece Phantom of the Opera.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta and a magnificent setting for the cultural events. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565.  It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short documentary about the building, history, and the restoration of this gem.
