Vibrant Violin Concert

Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, invites you for a very special edition of the weekly captivating lunchtime concerts at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta.  This special recital features extraordinary Macedonian violinist, Eva Bogoevska, who will be making her debut in Malta, accompanied by her mother Maria on the piano on Tuesday 20 February 2024 at 12:30pm.

Born in Skopje, North Macedonia, Eva Bogoevska started playing the violin at the age of seven, winning numerous prestigious international awards, which most significantly include first prize at the Sanremo Music Festival in Italy in 2012, Laureate of the highest degree at the renowned International Festival of Classical Music in St. Petersburg, Russia.

In 2016, Eva represented Macedonia and won the Grand Prix at the International Festival of Classical Art and Culture held in Jerusalem, Israel. In 2017 she won the First Prize at the largest International Competition for Classical Music RONDO based in New York where 200 competitors of the same category, from all the continents in the world took part. As the first prize winner in this competition, she received the award of a concert performance at Carnegie Hall, New York.

Eva Bogoevska has performed as a soloist with the Macedonian National Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Orchestra of the Opera and Ballet in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, on several occasions. She has also had solo performances in Slovakia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Italy, Russia, France, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal, America, Israel, Turkey, England, and in her native country.   

Immerse yourself in a captivating musical journey around Europe as the remarkable violinist and her talented accompanist present an intriguing programme, penned by European composers.  Highlights include French baroque J.M. Leclair’s Sonata, weaving through Adagio, Allegro ma poco, Sarabande, Allegro, followed by a soulful Melodie by German composer C.W. Gluck. The enchanting Salut d’amour Op.12 by English composer E. Elgar adds a touch of romantic elegance. This will be followed by the emotive strains of the Russian composer P. Tchaikovsky’s Melodie Op.42 No.3 and the timeless and harmonious Ave Maria by Bach/Gounod.  The talented mother-daughter duo concludes this recital with the lively Romanian Folk Dance by Hungarian B. Bartók.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta and a magnificent setting for the cultural events. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565.  It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta. 

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short documentary about the building, history, and the restoration of this gem. 

Vibrant Violin Concert will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 20 February 2024 at 12:30pm.
