JOURNEY THROUGH MOVIE TIME

Our Lady of Victory church in Valletta will host once again the last lunchtime concert of the season on Tuesday 28 May at 12:30pm. These popular lunchtime concerts are organised by Barocco Foundation in collaboration with the Din l-Art Ħelwa.  This recital features critically acclaimed musicans, violinist Edwina Cini and pianist Dr Lydia Buttigieg who will showcase the highlights of movie soundtracks and themes which have encapsulated some of the best movie films.

Our concert kicks off with a mesmerizing rendition of A Time for Us from the timeless classic Romeo and Juliet, followed by L. Cohen’s masterpiece Hallelujah as featured in the beloved animated film Shrek. This memorable recital unfolds with two iconic cinematic masterpieces, the first from the beloved film The Wizard of Oz, with the enchanting ballad Somewhere over the Rainbow and then by A Tale as Old as Time from one of Disney’s most beloved tales, Beauty and the Beast.  This intruiging programme continues with two timeless ballads from The Lion King, namely Can You Fell the Love Tonight where we expolore the tender romance between Simba and Nala, followed by the majestic The Circle of Life.

As our musical journey through cinematic treasures continues, we invite you to revel in the enchanting melodies of two immortal classics, Everything I Do from Robin Hood and Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins.  With these two melodies you will be transported to the heart of Sherwood Forest and the charming streets of London. As our programme of legendary melodies unfolds, prepare to be captivated by the world of fairy tale dreams from the popular animated film Frozen with Let it Go,  and Someday My Prince Will Come which is from the golden age classic animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This enchanting programme draws to a close with two classics that symbolize the magic of Disney storytelling: When You Wish Upon a Star from Pinocchio and by a carpet ride,  A Whole New World from Aladdin.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory is a magnificent setting for cultural events, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi. It is the first church of Valletta, built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565.  It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short documentary about the building, history, and the restoration of this gem.
