Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, proudly presents the opening concert of its 2025/2026 season on Tuesday, 7 October at the historic Our Lady of Victory Church in Valletta. This evocative afternoon of music will feature celebrated Maltese baritone Ken Scicluna, accompanied by distinguished Czech cellist Lucie Kucharova, in a unique programme that pays tribute to some of the most beloved film scores of the 20th century.
Set in the intimate and atmospheric surroundings of Valletta’s first church, the performance will transport audiences through a cinematic soundscape with timeless melodies re-imagined for baritone and cello. The programme includes Ennio Morricone’s poignant Gabriel’s Oboe, Henry Mancini’s elegant Charade and the nostalgic Moon River, as well as Vangelis’ powerful Conquest of Paradise, the contemplative Memories of Green, and the stirring Race to the End.
Other highlights include the haunting Schindler’s List Theme by John Williams, the romantic Somewhere My Love by Maurice Jarre, Nino Rota’s iconic Godfather Theme, the touching Sunrise, Sunset from Jerry Bock’s Fiddler on the Roof, Ernest Gold’s dramatic Exodus Theme, and the joyful classic Singing in the Rain by Herb Brown.
After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio-visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.
From Reel to Real: A Musical Journey will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 07 October 2025 at 12:30pm. Entrance to the concert is at a suggested donation of €13.
