Echoes of Elegance: Virtuoso meets Bel Canto

Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, is proud to present a captivating lunchtime concert at the historic Our Lady of Victory Church in Valletta on Tuesday, 21 October at 12:30pm. This concert promises a delightful exploration of the expressive range of the flute, featuring an exceptional programme performed by two distinguished Maltese flautists – the renowned Lauri Cioffi and the established Silvio Zammit – joined by the accomplished pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa.

The concert opens with Domenico Cimarosa’s Concerto for Two Flutes in G Major (G.1077), a work that exemplifies the elegance and charm of the Classical era. Known for his lyrical style and operatic flair, Cimarosa offers a lively dialogue between the two flutes, filled with graceful melodies and spirited exchanges.

This will be followed by Gaetano Donizetti’s Sonata for Two Flutes and Piano in C Major, in an arrangement by G. McLearnon. Originally composed for a different instrumentation, this version highlights Donizetti’s melodic genius in a chamber setting.

The programme concludes with Franz Doppler’s Andante et Rondo for Two Flutes and Piano, Op. 25, a brilliant showpiece that combines lyrical expressiveness with dazzling technical flair.

This concert offers a rare opportunity to experience the beauty and versatility of the flute in an intimate and acoustically rich setting.
