Celebrating 101 years of Mancini Magic!

Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, is pleased to present a delightful lunchtime concert on Tuesday, 28 October at 12:30pm at the beautiful Our Lady of Victory Church in Valletta. This concert will feature well-known baritone Ken Scicluna, accompanied by the highly accomplished pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa.

Known for his warm, expressive voice and captivating stage presence, Ken Scicluna will present a collection of songs composed by the great Henry Mancini, who is often cited to be the greatest composer of film music. This year is the 101 anniversary of his birth in Ohio, born of Italian immigrant workers; a prolific and versatile artist who performed and composed film scores, subsequently winning multiple Grammy Award, Academy Awards and a Golden Globe.

This unique performance explores themes of love, longing, and nostalgia through the sophisticated and emotive repertoire of the American songwriter Henry Mancini, offering a blend of tender ballads and smooth melodies.

Highlights include the timeless “Moon River”, the wistful “Charade”, and the romantic “Dreamsville” – all originally composed by Henry Mancini, whose evocative music has become synonymous with cinematic elegance. Other selections such as “How Soon,” “To My Love,” “Slow Hot Wind,” and “Dear Heart” further showcase the rich emotional palette of this repertoire.

Also included in the programme are touching selections such as “Mr. Lucky,” “Punch and Judy,” “Joanna,” “Song About Love,” “I Love You and Don’t You Forget It,” and the evocative “Mostly for Lovers.” Together, these pieces offer a journey through tender emotion and lyrical beauty, sure to resonate deeply with the audience, especially those who are keen on film music.

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio-visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.
