Voices of Hope and Grace: Sacred Arias for Soprano and Organ

Voices of Hope and Grace: Sacred Arias for Soprano and Organ

Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, invites audiences to a refined lunchtime concert on Tuesday 19 May 2026 at 12:30pm, set within the historic and intimate surroundings of Our Lady of Victory Church. This special recital will feature the talented soprano Maria Grazia Grech, accompanied by organist Mro. Abraham D’Amato, performing on the church’s rare and beautifully preserved 18th-century positivo organ.

The programme offers a thoughtfully curated journey through sacred music, blending beloved classics with lesser-known gems. It opens with the serene and expressive Ave Maria by Licinio Refice, followed by Ave Spes Solamen by Mro. Abraham D'Amato. The contemplative Lord, What is Man? by Henry Purcell brings a moment of introspection, leading into the poignant Vidit Suum Dulcem Natum from the Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.

Interwoven within the vocal programme are organ interludes that highlight the instrument’s character and historical resonance. These include the much-loved chorale Jesus bleibet meine Freude from BWV 147 and the lively Prelude in F major BWV 556 by Johann Sebastian Bach, performed by Mro. D’Amato.

The concert continues with a contemporary Maltese contribution, Movement III: In Presentationae Beatae Mariae Virginis from Vitae Beatae Mariae Virginis by Alexander Vella Gregory, followed by the uplifting aria If God Be for Us from Messiah by George Frideric Handel. The programme concludes with the lyrical Salve Regina by Vincenzo Bellini and the much-loved Ave Maria by Antonio Nani.

Voices of Hope and Grace: Sacred Arias for Soprano and Organ: will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 19 May 2026 at 12:30pm.
