International British flautist Andrea Kuypers will be back in Malta to perform in a sparkling concert, which is to be held at the fabulous Villa Bologna, Attard on Sunday, the 6th of July at 8:30pm. Ms. Kuypers will be teaming up with flautist Mro. Silvio Zammit and pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa to perform an amazing repertoire of flute melodies.

 

The flutes and piano concert will be placing the spotlight on some of the most beautiful melodies for flute. The repertoire will feature an international cast of flute composers with an eclectic choice of works from the Romanticm style.  The programme will reflect the mainstream flute repertoire portraying the works Gaubert, a popular  French late Romantic Period composer for flute. It will highlight the romantic and melodious works of the French composers Faure`, Poulenc, and Gaubert. The flute repertoire will also feature the works of the Polish Romantic flute virtuoso and composer Franz Doppler, as well as focusing on the works of the British composers and conductor John Rutter.

 

Andrea Kuypers is a freelance performer with a wealth of experience spanning over two decades. She has performed and recorded with all the major Scottish Orchestras and also further afield. Her highlights include tours of Poland and Germany with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and Austria and Spain with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, as well as many memorable concerts and recordings.

 

Outside Scotland, Andrea has performed with, amongst others, the BBC Concert Orchestra the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

 

Andrea has also worked with renowned soloists such as Mel Torme, George Shearing, Jack Jones, James Galway, Nichola Benedetti and The Priests.

 

Andrea has also worked extensively in the pop world, performing as a backing musician for Scottish band Belle and Sebastian. She appears on many of their recordings including the single Waking Up To Us. She undertook a world tour with the band and travelled to such places as the USA, Canada, Japan and Brazil.

 

Andrea has played with some of the worlds leading jazz artists whilst working with Tommy Smiths Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, notably a recent Edinburgh Festival performance with Gunther Schuller and Joe Lovano.

 

As well as her large-scale work, Andrea enjoys performing with her quartet Arcadia Flute and Strings and the Arcadia duo with her piano accompanist.

 

Andreas TV appearances range from Songs of Praise to Later with Jools Holland.

 

Andrea has been responsible for teaching the flautists at Edinburgh Napier University for 24 years and also runs her own thriving private studio. In addition she conducts the Flutes Unlimited Flute Choir and runs a summer school in France, Flutes du Soleil.

 

Silvio and Ramona Zammit have been active as a duo for the past 15 years.  They are both Fellows of the London College of Music and teach music in the Johann Strauss School of Music in Valletta.  Particularly due to the versatility of Ramona on the piano, flute and harpsichord, the duo can perform in the different combinations of instruments. 

 

During 1978-2001, Silvio was a member of the National Orchestra of Malta.  Currently he follows his professional career as a teacher and freelance soloist.  In 1998, the duo won the Lloyd Weber medal for distinction in interpretation. They have performed in various solo and chamber recitals in the U.S.A., Italy, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Portugal, Bulgaria and England.  They have also recorded CDs of Maltese music by Pace and Camilleri.  In collaboration with Gukulari Ensemble, they have also recorded CDs of 18th and 19th century music.  Several Maltese composers have dedicated works to the duo.  Their extensive repertoire ranges from the baroque to the contemporary.
